Easter Classic Results from Orlando FL! (April 19-20, 2003)
What a way to spend your Easter vacation - in sunny Florida, BMX racin'
with friends and family! After the Gator National we moved on to Orlando
for the Easter Classic and a visit with the Big Cheese (Mickey M)
himself. The Florida boys however were no less tough here as in Tampa,
but Cory seemed to be getting a bit more adjusted to the faster riders.
Saturday was tough as due to the two-moto system, he only had two
shots to make the Main. Two 4th place finishes sent him packing for
the day and onto some serious mini-golf. Sunday (Easter Sunday) was
an awesome day as Cory missed the Main event by only about 5 feet.
Let me explain - The first moto was again a tough one as the best
our rocket could muster was a 3rd place, but a 2nd in the second round
moto meant that Cory was only one round away from a possible Main
in FL. As the gate fell on the third round Cory was a rocket and had
the lead about halfway down the first straight, but those FL boyz
were tough and came back quickly to shuffle Cory back to 2nd and then
back to 3rd. He crossed the finish line in third place about 5 feet
behind Thomas Kresconko sending our rocket back to NJ with no trophies
or plaques from the sunny state of FL in 2003. Overall it was a fantastic
time, a great vacation and a great holiday. We're very proud of the
effort put forth by Cory against some stiff competition! See
ya on the track soon!
Gator National results from Tampa FL! (April 12-13, 2003)
If you've ever wondered why Florida has been the #1 State Team at
the President's Cup prior to Ohio dethroning them in 2002, then we'll
tell ya why - BECAUSE THOSE BOYZ ARE ROCKET FAST - THAT'S WHY!!
Cory arrived in Tampa a week earlier and was well rested for
what was sure to be a great BMX showdown. On Saturday Cory finished
4th in the first round, 3rd in the second round and just needed a
3rd in the third round to make the Main. However, another 4th in the
third round was enough to end his day. No Main event today but it
was only the beginning. Sunday was another day, but was quick to show
that it would end with similar results. Our lightning bolt from NJ
quickly packed it in after a 4th in the first round, 4th in the second
round and a 4th in the third round sent him home again without a plaque
or trophy. Oh well, there was always a go-kart ride or game of mini-golf
to ease the pain. The pain was very short lived as Cory quickly figured
out his next stop was going to be Orlando, home to Universal Studios
and Disney! Let's GO!
Cory pulls off a win at Central Jersey's Opening Day! (April
6, 2003)
The first race of the 2003 season at Central Jersey BMX was originally
scheduled to run on March 30th, but rain postponed it for another
week and it was well worth it. Sunny skies and somewhat mild temps
made it a great day for racing. Due to the NBL National in Shoreham
NY, the turnout was good but not as good as it could have been. Cory's
7N class was combined with the 6 Novice and 9 Novice classes. Cory
raced behind Casey Jones (9N) and Micheal Schneider (9N) as these
two were long gone and fighting amongst themselves for the victory.
While 1st and 2nd place battled for the lead, Cory had his work cut
out for him trying to hold off some tough competition. However, he
was able to finish ahead of a very strong Tommy Gillis
(6N), John Alvarado (7N) and Sean Robinson (9N) in motos 2 and 3 to
take the 7N win. We'll see ya on the track again next week!
